China is the largest producer of hydroelectric power in the world, with more than 385 GW of installed capacity. The country is also home to the world’s largest hydropower facility by capacity, the 22.5-GW Three Gorges. With significant hydropower potential remaining and an obvious will to develop and operate large hydro projects and pumped storage facilities, China is a unique case study for this industry. Experts will discuss the status of hydropower in the country, future expansion plans and the role of hydro in China’s overall generation mix.
